A Swinging Start — beginning our year-long adventure in France

There is a swing outside our apartment!

A Swinging Start

Well it’s been a long road getting here (and a long flight), but we are finally settling in and getting into the ‘swing’ of things. This swing was a pleasant surprise outside of our new apartment on the hill. Emily has taken to swinging as soon as she comes home from school like some sort of ritual. “Give me a super-duper power push!”, she pleads. The swing, as it turns out, is not that great in maintaining momentum. We too, are feeling a bit of the power drain. Between organizing the details for school (forms, insurances, lunch cards, bus cards, meetings with the teacher and director) and the details for life (getting a french cel phone, making sure the internet is up and running for work, measuring our apartment and purchasing tenant’s insurance, and finally considering the daunting prospect of buying a car), we seem to be losing momentum. After all… we’re in France. We’re drinking wine. We’re eating dessert. Losing momentum is what we’re here for.

How is the wine? The desserts? 🙂

We are collecting corks: the wine is good and cheap! We’ll see how many corks there are at the end of it all. I have always enjoyed a good Cotes du Rhones and we are in the region for it, but rosés are very popular here too. They’re pretty, they’re pink… need I say more?! And desserts, well they are just too available. Really. It is sometimes a very dangerous place to be!
